It's a rare life that doesn't require a Doctor

Our Health Professionals can have so very much to do with our quality of life.

A General Practitioner, a Registered Nurse, a Specialist in one of many fields... a Dentist or perhaps a Psychologist or Massage Therapist and many more ... and all the Support People that help assure
the efficiencies of these Experts...

Many of us go to these Professionals as a last resort....not because we lack faith in the abilities of a given Professional but because we don't want to face the realities they may deal us.

Talk about parallel processes... just like getting one's assets organized is an issue for many of us...attending to one's health concerns can be just as deniable.

Some say that men are the worst...could be.

I recall an acquaintance that took it upon himself to self diagnose a perceived illness and then took drastic measures to deal with 'it'. Come to find out, the self diagnosis wasn't even remotely accurate...such a waste. It reminds me of that old 20-80 rule...we worry 80% of the time about issues or perceptions that only happen 20% of the time. Life is far too short, too tenuous to self impose unnecessary stress on ourselves and those who are important to us.

When preparing a living will, a representation agreement or health care directive it will be an opportunity to have your Health Care Professional or Professionals give you the information that you need to make the decisions that suit you best. This information may include reference to organ donations and long term health care. You may even want your advocate or Power of Attorney attend these meetings. It's so much simpler to make informed decisions and know your support people have clear understanding as well.

Incapacitation often makes its' own time.

Perhaps the most dreaded circumstance that we face in life is Incapacitation. It can be the result
of an accident, short and long term illness, loss of capacity; even a house fire can be considered to be a form of incapacitation.

A simple measure of incapacitation:
'Is my Lifestyle capable of being sustained today in the same manner as it was yesterday, before the incident?'

The Surgeon, the Plant Worker and the Pastor at the local church may have different answers, given that each of them cut off his thumb yesterday while cutting wood for the fireplace.

Will life be the same tomorrow with the computer records all lost forever as a result of the house fire yesterday. We don't need to be alarmed by these questions, simply motivated about protecting those interests before they move from the current status to something more vulnerable.

Do I know how well I am protected; do I have the proper information to make decisions that are smart 'for me'; can I improve my protection and plug the more vulnerable holes in my plan?
No Plan? As has been said before 'No Plan is still a Plan' ... let's hope it's not the Plan for failure.
None of us is immune to the vulnerability for incapacitation...no pill for that one...sorry about that. Each of is in charge of our 'procrastination' gene though...
